Alex The Man Jones

Many of you know, or know of, my son Alex. I’ve talked before about the day he was born and my return home that day wondering what his life would be like.

Well, that day was almost 41 years ago and the answer to that question is a definitive “Pretty darn good”! The life Alex is living now is beyond anything I could have imagined. He lives in a house independently, works at Kroger, feeds his birds, waters his plants, shovels his drive, fixes his meals, does his laundry, runs his dishwasher, cleans his kitchen and bathroom, arranges his own transportation through Lyft, and watches WAY too much WWE.

He is active in an Improv group, plays tennis, works out with his trainer, and has lost 32 lbs. by giving up bread BUT while still eating a huge bowl of ice cream every night. (I expect that 20 years from now some scientists will validate the Alex Jones Ice Cream Diet as something we all should be doing!)

Alex has had many people supporting him; his mom, his sisters, his staff/best friend/Robinet, and many others. As I consider Alex’s extraordinary life, I believe the single biggest factor of his success is all the people that did not put limits on what Alex could do. Challenges were presented to him and, with some coaching, Alex overcame them with often stunning success!

Alex is a shining example of what can happen when we don’t place limits on people. My appeal to this group is for your help in supplying that nudge to those that need it. Our reward will be watching the unimaginable achievements of those that Adult Literacy Ohio has, and will, help.
