Updates - Operational, Financial & Ice Cream
Last week was a busy week. Tuesday (2/3) was the 4th birthday of Adult Literacy Ohio. Alex The Man and I attended for as long as his social calendar would allow. Alex posed for pictures and, perhaps, a few autographs but I can’t testify to the latter. The party was awesome with loads of providers, facilitators and customers in attendance. It was great to see luminaries such as Kyle McKay (exceptional ElevateDD event photographer) and Stephanie Leppert (among other things, Stephanie is the Brightest Smile welcoming visitors to the DSACO offices). ALO provided plenty of cake and cookies but, of course, The Man declined due to his strict no carbs (except ice cream) policy.
Saturday (2/7) was the annual Dancing With The Stars Gala. I’m estimating attendance at 700. If you’ve never attended, the Gala is a must do. Without a doubt it is one of the most joyous events you’ll ever experience.
I joke a lot about Alex and his ice cream. What I haven’t previously mentioned is that, because of ALO, Alex now has the ability to READ FOOD LABELS. Reading food labels is just one of many LIFE CHANGING impacts on Alex’s life. He’s lost weight and improved his health. Other positive impacts include being able to navigate the LYFT app for transportation (kind of important), communicating via texts, and, of course requesting tons of WWE items. Thank you ALO.
Financially, the 321 Challenge stands at $7,668 in donations raised. Thank you to those who have supported so far, and we appreciate the consideration of others for the life changing ALO programs.
And for my last update, ICE CREAM. In past blogs I’ve mentioned how Alex The Man Jones has lost weight over the past year (35 pounds and counting). As mentioned above, his ability to read labels has helped immensely is these results. I’ve jokingly pointed out that, besides his reading abilities, Alex’s secret ingredient is copious amounts of ice cream EVERY night. Alex has been subscribing to what I call “The Ice Cream Diet” for over one year. Within the last week several studies have been published showing that ice cream may be one of the most perfect foods. And these studies aren’t funded by “Big Ice Cream”. In fact. to the contrary, scientists refused to believe the results for a long time (seriously - Google it). Now I can’t claim that Alex’s ability to read affected him being ahead of the curve but ……
